Expeditionary
The Friday Expeditionary Program is an option
for families who want a family learning experience. The goal of this
program is to provide experiential learning in monthly thematic
units, appropriate for grades K-12. Within each unit, three Fridays
are spent on field trips or activities related to the topic. The
fourth Friday is spent on campus doing activities and crafts related
to the field trip experiences.
As an example, a unit on flight included visits to the Flight
Museum, Snohomish Airfield, and Ariel Ballooning Company in
Snohomish. The day on campus was spent playing games based on the
flight theme and creating hot air balloons.
A unit on book-making brought a local author to school to speak to
the students about the writing process. On the third Friday of the
month, the students finished their writing and illustrations at
school and bound their books. The fourth Friday students shared
their illustrated books with each other. Students enjoyed receiving
positive feedback from their peers on the writing and illustrations.
During the 2009-10 year the program continues with thematic units
and an emphasis on guest speakers and on-campus activities which are
appropriate for all ages.
