A Letter from Dr. Mester

Dear Parents and Friends of Snohomish Schools,

Welcome to the 2007-2008 school year in Snohomish! We are excited about the upcoming school year, and very much look forward to the many activities that will take place throughout the year!

This fall we opened the District’s tenth elementary school, Little Cedars, and next fall we will open the doors of our brand new high school, Glacier Peak. In addition, the modernization of Snohomish High School will be completed next fall. We are also installing a district-wide fiber optic network to provide up-to-date technological tools for our students. This is an exciting time for us, as we see the finalization of these projects funded by the voter-approved 2004 capital projects bond. I encourage you to keep up-to-date on these projects by checking out the District’s Web site at: www.sno.wednet.edu.

This year a second Citizens Facilities Advisory Committee has been meeting to review current data on projected enrollment, facility conditions, and financial information in order to make a recommendation to the School Board for Phase 2 of our facility plan.

I am proud to be a part of a community that is so willing to invest in its youth. Building these schools would not have been possible without the passage of the 2004 capital projects bond. In addition, many community members generously give of their time and money to support our educational program and the many school events sponsored by both the District and parent organizations.

Your support and involvement reinforce and recognize the efforts of our staff and students, and is truly appreciated.

If you have a question or concern that is not answered on the site, I encourage you to contact our Communications Office at:
360-563-7263.

Have a great year!

William A. Mester
Superintendent

Note:  Dr. Mester, who joined our district in 2002, is on a medical leave of absence. He was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma in October. At this time he has completed his third round of chemotherapy and is doing well.

During Dr. Mester’s leave, the school board appointed Assistant Superintendent Betty Robertson to serve as acting superintendent. Mrs. Robertson has been with our district since 1998.
