The goal is to expand and rebuild the school to address the current overcrowding and ensure it meets student, staff and community needs. Dykeman and Dull Olson Weekes Architects have designed the project in consultation with parents, community members, staff, and students.
“This is an exciting time as we plan a school that provides a quality learning environment for our students,”says Principal Nancy Rhoades.
Once the elementary students from Machias and Riverview Elementary Schools move out of the Maple Avenue Campus (former Freshman Campus) and into their new schools, Valley View students will move in for about 18 months while their school is under construction.
Work planned for summer of 2010 includes excavation of the upper fields area and installation of geothermal wells for the heating system.
Centennial:
This project will add more classrooms and a second gym to increase capacity in our district’s northern attendance areas. Four existing science rooms will be remodeled, and the existing secondary gym and dining area will be refashioned to become a central commons. The main gaym will receive a new floor and bleachers. Hutteball & Oremus Architecture firm have designed the addition with a great deal of input from students and staff.
Principal Scott Peacock says, “This project will be a great benefit to our community; it brings our Central/Emerson students into a single school-feeder pattern. We also have the opportunity to make a few changes that will improve our school for all students.”
Students will remain on site during construction. The new addition is slated for completion by fall 2011.
