September 2011 Update
Centennial Middle School – North Addition: Window and curtain wall installation continued with anticipated completion set for Oct. 9. Drywall installation and taping substantially completed on both floors. Completed painting 75% of the interior walls. Installed 50% of the masonry veneer. Continued the overhead electrical rough in. Completed hydronic and domestic water piping installation.
South Addition: Completed the finishes in corridors, classrooms and auxiliary gym. Installed the glass folding partitions in the health classrooms. Completed the installation of the light fixtures in the classrooms and auxiliary gym. Completed the pre-functional testing of all HVAC equipment. Began punch list in selected areas.
Existing Building: Completed the mondo flooring in the science rooms, labs and corridors. Completed the installation of Smartboards throughout. Installed the bleachers in the main gym. Installed the glass wall between the entry corridor and the commons. Installed the skylights in the commons. Completed all finishes and mechanical/electrical trim in locker rooms. Began punch list for selected areas.
Sitework: Received the state operating permit for the new septic system. Completed the right-of-way improvements. Completed the curbs, walks and paving in the south parking lot. Installed lighting in bus loop and parking lot. Began landscaping improvements.
Valley View Middle School – Completed the Building D and E steel erection. Mechanical, electrical and plumbing underslab rough-in began at Building E and continued for Building A and B. Installation continued on the mechanical, electrical and plumbing main lines from Broadway to the building. Completed the slab on metal deck pours at Buildings A, B and C. Framing exterior walls continued for Building A and B. Sheathing and weather barrier installation began at Building A and B. Continued the waterline excavation and installation on site. Placed asphalt treated base at the north drive. Membrane roofing installation began at Building A and B.
June 2011 Update Centennial Middle School – North Addition: Completed the installation of the sloped metal roof decking, rigid roof installation and the roofing membrane. Installation of the exterior sheathing and building wrap continued and is 85% complete. Window and curtain wall installation continued. Completed the first floor plumbing and HVAC rough in and continued the rough in of the second floor. Completed the first floor electrical rough in. Completed the second flooor interior partition framing.
South Addition: Completed the installation of the roof trusses, roof underlayment, and began the installation of the metal roof panels for the covered play area. Masonry veneer for the auxiliary gym and classrooms continued. Completed the mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection rough in. Completed the drywall installation and began taping. Completed the installation of the transluccent windows for the auxiliary gym and fitness room. Completed the installation of the exterior doors. Boiler room equipment installation continued and is 80% complete. Sitework: Began drilling the geothermal wells, completing 6 of the 66 wells required. Completed the installation of the septic system pumps and controls, and started up the system for a test period. Right-of-way improvements continued and are 90% complete.
Valley View Middle School – Building survey layout completed. Building B slab on grade poured. Building C and D footings poured. Building D footing excavation completed. Mechianical, electrical and plumbing underslab rough in completed at Building B and C and started at Building D. Waterline excavation and installation continued. Continued moving the Phase I stockpiles to raise the grade of the football field. Structural steel erection began at Building A and B.
April 2011 Update
Centennial Middle School – North Addition: Completed the structural steel erection. Began framing the first floor perimeter walls. Installed the second floor metal floor decking. Installed first floor duct hangers. South Addition: Installed the roof membrane on the gym, boiler room and drying room. Completed the masonry for the covered play area. Framed the exterior gym walls. Installed the exterior wall sheathing at the gym and classroom building. Began the mechanical, plumbing and electrical rough-in.
Valley View Middle School – Cross Valley Waterline Preconstruction Meeting was held. Building layout continued. Building A and B brace grade beams were poured. Mechanical, electrical and plumbing underslab rough-in began at Buildings A and B. Footing excavations began at Building C. Waterline excavation and installation began on site. Continued moving the Phase I stockpiles to raise the grade of the football field.
March 2011 Update
Centennial Middle School – North Addition: Completed the foundations and stem walls; backfilled crushed rock under slab; installed under-slab plumbing and electrical, and installed temporary fresh air supply ductwork to existing building. South Addition: Began erection of the structural steel; continued the installation of the masonry, and framed the drying room and the boiler room.
Valley View Middle School – Issued a Notice of Intent to award a contract. Board approved the low bid contract to Absher Construction. Submitted the D-9 Form to OSPI and received D-10 Form from OSPI. Received the grading permit approval. Executed construction contract and issued a Conditional Notice to Proceed. Held a Pre-Construction Conference. Contractor began hazardous materials abatement at the existing building.\
February 2011 Update
Centennial Middle School – Continued the excavation of the north addition foundation. Formed the stem walls. Installed the reinforced shell and poured the concrete for the north addition. Completed the installation of the artifical rock facing for the retaining wall. Completed pouring the concrete floor slab for the south addition and covered play area.
Valley View Middle School – Received and responded to the first round of Building Permit comments. Received the D-8 Form (authorization to open bids) for OSPI. Received Board approval of the Constructability Review. Completed the negotiations for the Building Special Inspection consultant contract. CUP Hearing held Jan. 6 and the application was approved. Bids opened Jan. 20.
January 2011 Update
Centennial Middle School – Continued the excavation of the north addition foundation. Started forming the stem walls for the north addition. Started the installation of the artificial rock-facing for the retaining wall. Installed the under-slab utilities for the south addition. Completed the foundation work for the south addition. Poured the concrete floor slab for the south addition. removed the exterior masonry veneer at the south wall of the new addition.
Valley View Middle School – Responded to the first round of Building Permit comments. Submitted the D-7 Form (authoriazation to open bids) to OSPI. Received Constructability Review Board approval. Finalized the Cross Valley Water District Developer Extension Agreement. Advertised for bids for the Phase 2 building construction. Held a pre-bid conference for the Phase 2 building construction.
December 2010 Update
Centennial Middle School – Received Building Permit. Completed the installation of the new septic system. Backfilled South Addition foundation and installed rock base for slab. Started the masonry work for the South Addition. Completed the installation of the shot-crete retaining wall. Completed installation of the geo-piers for the North Addition. Completed the excavation and started the forms for the North Addition foundation.
Valley View Middle School – Completed the Constructability Review responses and back check. Completed Construction Document Estimate Review and confirmed that the project is in budget. Reviewed preliminary response to the first round Building permit comments with the County. Received Electrical Plan Review Approval letter from the Dept. of L&I. Selected Special Inspections firm and began contract negotiations.
November 2010 Update
Centennial Middle School – Completed the upgrades to the PE locker rooms. Continued the installation of the new septic system. Installed a new PUD water main around the north addition. Excavated foundations at the south addition, installed footings and formed stem walls. Started the installation of the shot-crete retaining wall.
Valley View Middle School – Achieved substantial completion of Phase I. Received second round Conditional Use Permit review comments from the County. Received first round building permit review comments. Completed the construction cost estimate and began review. Completed the Phase II constructability review.
October 2010 Update
Centennial Middle School – Received approval of the Conditional Use Permit. Received electrical, grading and foundation permits. Installed new electical service and communications lines. Re-routed fire lane around south end of the building. Completed technology upgrades in the library and continued upgrades in the new computer lab. Continued upgrades to the PE locker rooms. Completed installation of new storm sewer system. Began installation of new septic system.
Valley View Middle School – Completed Phase I site excavation and stockpiling. Completed Phase I drilling and installation of the geothermal wells. Completed the construction of the rock retaining wall.
September 2010 Update
Centennial Middle School – Received portable relocation permit. Expedited construction schedule was reviewed and approved moving the March 2012 substantial completion to September 2011. Started the installation of relocating the water, sanitary sewer, new electrical service and communications lines. Started technology upgrades in the library and new computer lab. Started upgrades to PE locker rooms.
Valley View Middle School – Submitted the Phase II Building Permit Application to Snohomish County. Continued with Phase I site excavation and stockpiling. Completed Phase I drilling and installation of the geothermal wells.
August 2010 Update
Centennial Middle School – Continued negotiations for a turning lane easement. Received state health approval of the septic system design revisions. Received permit to demolish portable buildings. Submitted portable relocation permit application.
Valley View Middle School – The Design Team continued to prepare Phase II bid documents. Site excavation and stockpiling began. 166 geothermal wells were installed.
July 2010 Update
Centennial Middle School - Required right of way improvements and associated wetland mitigation measures were designed. Construction documents were revised for stormwater management changes. A contract was issued to Geotest for building testing and special inspections. Negotiations for a parking agreement with Snohomish Community Church were completed.
Valley View Middle School - The Design Team continues to prepare Phase II bid documents. The contractor for site work is mobilized on site; 50 geothermal wells have been installed. The grading permit was received.
June 2010 Update
Centennial Middle School - Construction Documents Phase estimate and estimate review have been completed. The Constructability Review and architect’s response have been completed. Bids were opened June 3rd.The board approved the contract award to Spee West for construction on June 9. Negotiations for parking agreement and turning lane easement are ongoing.
Valley View Middle School - Notice to proceed was issued May 26 to JR Hayes and Sons for Phase 1 Early Site Development. The contractor mobilized on site, installed perimeter fencing, and completed survey work. Geothermal well drilling has begun. The Design Team continues to prepare Phase II bid documents. The 30% complete Phase 2 construction documents checklist was submitted for review.
May 2010 Update
Centennial Middle School - Construction Documents and cost estimate have been completed, as well as the constructability review. Advertising for bids took place on April 30th as approved by the Board. Negotiations for parking agreement and turning lane easement are ongoing.
Valley View Middle School - The Board awarded a contract to J.R. Hayes and Sons for early site development. The Design Team continued preparation of Phase II bid documents. Septic System analysis is complete.
April 2010 Update
Centennial Middle School - Construction documents were completed April 9th, and the construction document estimate and constructability review began April 12th. Negotiations for a parking agreement and turning lane easement are in process. The Hydro-Geologic Report required by the County has been completed.
Valley View Middle School - Drawings have been revised to increase the size of the commons dining capacity, add covered access to the covered play area, and additional on-site parking. A pre-bid conference was held March 30th for Phase I Early Site Development, and bids are due April 27th.
March 2010 Update
Centennial Middle School - Additional focus group input meetings were held. The County reviewed parking/bus loading and access layout and determined one or more turning lanes will be needed to alleviate early morning congestion. The application for a building permit has been submitted. Geothermal conductivity testing has been performed.
Valley View Middle School - The site work bid package has been completed. It has been determined that a 7’ asphalt shoulder will need to be installed along the west side of Broadway. This will also require some degree of wetland buffer impact mitigation.
February 2010 Update
Centennial Middle School - Constructability Review and Commissioning contracts were approved and executed. The SEPA comment period has ended with no comments received. A meeting was held with staff focus groups to get more input.
Valley View Middle School -A design development presentation was made to the Design Committee, and the Design Committee met with school focus groups to get more input. The Board approved Design Development and authorized proceeding with construction documents.
January 2010 Update
Centennial Middle School - Design development and cost estimates were approved by the board. The Design Team has been authorized to move forward with construction documents. A constructability review consultant and a commissioning agent have been selected. The SEPA comment period came to an end with no comments received, and the conditional use permit agency reviews have been completed and submitted to the Planning Department.
Valley View Middle School - Design development documents and cost estimate review have been completed. A contract for constructability review consultant has been awarded to Meng Analysis. Scope-of-work for the early site work bid package has been developed.

Centennial Middle School - Design Committee members have continued in to meet with the Design Team to discuss design specifics. The Design Team continues to evaluate proposed systems. Design development documents and cost estimates have been completed.
Valley View Middle School - The design team continues to meet and work on design specifics. A design update was presented to the staff. Comments from the County on the Conditional Use Permit continue to be received. Design development is ongoing.

The Design Team continues to evaluate proposed systems including mechanical, electrical, and sustainable components. Design development documents and cost estimates have been completed.
Valley View Middle School - Focus group meetings with the Design Team and school staff continue to discuss specific spaces. Comments from the County on the Conditional Use Permit continue to be received. The design update was presented to the staff. Sustainable Practices design analysis and preliminary value engineering report and recommendations were presented to the school board on Oct. 7.

Centennial Middle School - Design Committee members met with the Design Teams twice over the summer. The Design Team is finishing the evaluation of proposed systems including mechanical, electrical, and sustainable components.
Valley View Middle School - Additional geotechnical investigation was completed. Geothermal well investigation and a conductivity test have been completed. Focus group meetings with the Design Team and school staff to discuss specific spaces have continued. A sustainable practices meeting was held August 27 to review draft data.
June 2009 Update
Centennial Middle School – The Design Team has been focusing on completion of Schematic Design documents and incorporation of sustainable elements.
Valley View Middle School – Focus groups of teachers and staff met with the architects to discuss room placement. The hazardous material survey and traffic study have been completed. Additional geotechnical borings have been completed.
May 2009 Update
Centennial Middle School – The preferred concept was selected, and was well received by the County. The Design Committee met with the County for a preliminary discussion of traffic conditions.
Valley View Middle School – The Design Team has refined the preferred concept for locating the building on the site. The Hazardous Materials Survey is in progress. School staff met with the Design Committee to discuss sustainable practice ideas.

The design committee has narrowed down the preferred concept for building location on the site. A preliminary meeting has been held with the County about permitting.
