Nearly 750 students to graduate from high schools in Snohomish
Commencement exercises for all three district high schools will be held in June, and 747 students will soon receive their diplomas. Our graduates have much to be proud of! Read about the accomplishments of our students in each high school section below.
AIM High School
25 students will graduate from AIM High School at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 9. Together the students received more than $1,200 in scholarships. Congratulations to our graduates!
The class as a whole represents a variety of backgrounds, talents, and aspirations. Here are a few highlights about some of the graduates:

Yosie Torralba won a Youth Challenge Award from the Lynnwood Rotary. She also completed her dental assisting program at Sno-Isle Technical High School.

MacKenzie Martin has already started her training at Everest Beauty College.

Kelsey Lang has completed a year of Running Start and has been awarded three semesters scholarship at Everett Community College.

Christine Goulet graduated early (February) and completed her training for medical assisting at Sno-Isle Technical High School.
Glacier Peak High School
Glacier Peak High School’s commencement ceremony will be held at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 14, for 330 seniors at the Everett Events Center. Glacier Peak High School students have earned approximately $1,063,475 in scholarships from school and community scholarship funds, community organizations, colleges, and regional and national organizations. Some of the highlights from the 2010-2011 school year at Glacier Peak High School include:
Academically:

58 graduates received Washington State Honors (top 10% of Washington state graduating class determined by index - GPA and SAT/ACT score).

17 graduates received the Washington State Principals’ Award for Academic Excellence (top 5% GPA rank of Glacier Peak High School graduating class).

Emily Borg-Leon was selected as a recipient of the Washington Award for Vocational Excellence (WAVE). The WAVE Program recognizes three students in each legislative district in Washington State for their successes in a Career and Technical Education program.
Sports:

15 of 18 teams were recognized for either “Outstanding Scholastic Team” awards (3.5 - 4.0 GPA varsity team average) or “Distinguished Scholastic Team” awards (3.0-3.49 GPA varsity team average) from the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association.

A majority of the teams, or individual athletes, participated in state level competitions. As a result, many athletes were showcased in newspapers.
Artistically:

Art student Sienna Coppa and her acrylic painting, Ripple Effect, were selected for a $200 purchase award by the Northwest Educational School District 189 and will be added to their permanent collection in its Anacortes office. Sienna also received Silver Keys in Printmaking, Drawing, Painting and Senior Art Portfolio from the Scholastic Arts Awards.

Christie Caldwell received a Gold Key in Printmaking from the Scholastic Arts Awards. She received a Northwest Educational School District 189 Drawing Award, and was recognized for her artwork at the Evergreen State Fair and the Snohomish County 4-H.

Emily Rudolph received two Gold Keys in Mixed Media and Senior Art Portfolio and a Silver Key in Drawing from the Scholastic Arts Awards.

Chelsea Rodino received a Gold Key in Mixed media from the Scholastic Arts Awards.

Aiko Szymczak received a Silver Key in Drawing and a Gold Key in Photography Portfolio from the Scholastic Arts Commission.

Art students were recognized for exceptional talents through the Arts Commission and Night of the Arts.

Band and choir students received rave reviews in music competitions.

There was one school production – “The Sound of Music.”
Snohomish High School
Snohomish High School will graduate 391 seniors at the Everett Events Center at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, June 14. Snohomish High School students have earned approximately $848,000 in scholarships from local scholarship funds, community organizations, colleges, and regional and national organizations. Of the $848,000, $80,000 came from local scholarship donors within our community. Below are a few highlights of student achievements:
Academically:

43 graduates received Washington State Honors (top 10% of Washington state graduating class determined by index - GPA and SAT/ACT score).

22 graduates received the Washington State Principals’ Award for Academic Excellence (top 5% GPA rank of Snohomish High School graduating class).

99 total students, including 40 seniors, were inducted into the National Honor Society.

There were three graduates with 4.0 GPAs.

238 students were enrolled in AP courses.

103 students took 146 AP tests.

Brady Coad was recognized as a Washington State Scholar, a program that recognizes the accomplishments of three high school seniors from each of the state’s legislative districts.
Sports:

Twelve of 19 varsity sports were recognized by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association for team GPAs above 3.0.

Eight varsity sports teams place 1st or 2nd in the WESCO North League.
-
39 athletes received individual honors as First Team All-Conference.
-
Ten individual state medals were earned along with two individual state championships.

Three teams placed in the Top 8 in state tournaments.
-
Many athletes were showcased in newspapers.
Artistically:

Sophomore Lexi Marcouiller will be showing art at an Everett gallery this summer.

A group of art students will continue to paint the wallball boards at Dutch Hill Elementary.

Freshman Caroline Dreher won a gold medal in the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards for her mixed media item, “Stain Glass.” This is a national award, and Caroline was the only freshman in the state to win a gold award in art.

Art students were recognized for exceptional talents through the Arts Commission and Night of the Arts.

Band and choir students received rave reviews in music competitions.

There were two school productions – “A Night of Musical Theatre” and “The Pajama Game.”
