663 students graduate from Snohomish schools
Commencement exercises for all three district high schools were held in June, and 663 students received their diplomas. Our graduates have much to be proud of. Read about the accomplishments of our students in each high school below.
Largest class ever graduates from AIM High School
Thirty-two students graduated from AIM High School June 10th, by far the largest class to complete their high school education at the Snohomish School District’s alternative high school. Together the students received over $12,000 in scholarships.
The class as a whole represents a variety of backgrounds, talents, and aspirations. Here are a few highlights about some of the graduates:
- Josh Adams is an Eagle Scout. After graduation he will participate in his LDS mission, and then attend a four-year college.
- Amanda Blue is a cancer survivor. She began attending AIM in 2006 after surgery for glioblastoma, a brain tumor.
- Alejandro Perez is an immigrant who has embraced America and demonstrated an eagerness to learn about his adopted country that outshines most native born students.
- Jackie Carlson plans a career in pediatric nursing.
- Blair Nesseth has been on the Snohomish High varsity golf team for three years and has been one of the top three in WESCO the entire year.
- Madeline Hopewell plays violin with the Everett Youth Symphony and is a competitive rower.
- Anthony Fazzone plans a career in audio production.
- Laura Holst plans to be an orthodontist.
- Ellen Whitney is a second generation artist. She plans to attend college this fall.
- Lilli Bock has worked full time and lived on her own. She has already begun studies at Everett Community College, and plans to become a nurse.
- Katrina Bruer is an artist who plans a career in psychology.
- Sarah Shawback has qualified for the Air Force and wants to pursue a career as a Load Master.
- Ricky Primitivo has been accepted into Central Washington State for a degree in CAD design.
- Christina Pierce rides on the high school rodeo circuit and has qualified for the Nationals this July in Wyoming. She trains students in horsemanship. She plans to attend college in Oregon and to ride rodeo at the college level.
Two students have been attending Everett Community College already, one received a Youth Challenge award for courage in the county, and many already have jobs. Congratulations to our graduates!
Glacier Peak holds first commencement exercises
Glacier Peak held its first commencement ceremony for 267 seniors on Thursday, June 17 at the Everett Events Center. This class will have many things to remember about their senior year. Some of the highlights from the 2009-2010 school year at Glacier Peak:
Academically:
- Debate team earned a second place trophy this year.
- Biotech students captured awards in every competition.
- Yearbook staff received a national Pacemaker award for journalistic excellence.
Sports:
- Boys basketball team won a state trophy
- Boys soccer team captured first in state
- Girls track team won first in state
- Football and baseball teams worked their way up the regional ladder
- Many athletes were showcased in newspapers
Artistically:
- Art students were recognized for exceptional talents through the Arts Commission and Night of the Arts
- Band and choir students received rave reviews in music competitions
- GPHS presentation of “The Music Man”
Snohomish High graduates 364
Snohomish High graduated 364 seniors at the Everett Events Center on June 17. Snohomish students have earned over $900,000 in scholarships from school and community scholarship funds, community organizations, colleges, and regional and national organizations.
This class has much to be proud of. Here are a few highlights of student achievements from the class of 2010:
- 3 seniors awarded National Merit Letters of Commendation
- 2 school productions: A Christmas Carol and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers
- 35 students recognized through Scholastic Art Competition
- 120 Seniors recognized at Senior Recognition Night, earning $910,000 in scholarships,
- $78,000 from local donors
- 8 students recognized in Snohomish County Arts Council photo contest
- 9 students graduating with AA degrees
