Biotech students place first in competition

Nineteen Glacier Peak biotechnology students from Tami Caraballo’s classes participated May 24 in the Biotechnology Exposition in Bellevue, sponsored by the Northwest Association for Biomedical Research. The students presented information regarding their SMART Teams (Students Modeling A Research Topic)—teacher-led teams of high school students who use state-of-the-art rapid prototyping technologies to design and create physical models of proteins or other molecular structures that are the focus of research in local biomedical research laboratories.

The Glacier Peak students did an unbelievable job, and GPHS teams finished first, second, fourth, and fifth in the competition, collecting awards and recognition for the work they created in Ms. Caraballo’s classes, with help from Bryan Mossburg’s Computer-Aided Design and Advanced Manufacturing students.

The Biotechnology students representing GPHS were:
Emily Anderson, MacKenzie Brederick, Nicole Burns, Victoria Crowe, Craig Eberli, Jordan Edgar, Monica Gillie, Michael Kohler, Kara Michaels, Josh Stocker, Brooke Wandler, Andrew Weakley, Sean White, Anjuli Wilson, Tabitha Babcock, Sara Desaultes, Colby Hanson, Colton Rud, and Alex Shore.
