
A team of Snohomish students from Little Cedars Elementary took top places in competitions at the 2011 Future Problem Solving International (FPSI) Conference. The group of 4th through 6th grade students placed 4th in the Global Issues Problem Solving Competition and 3rd for their Action Plan Presentation. More than 60 teams competed in the international event held June 9-12 at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
Chris Bianchini, Malakai Fifita, Evan Brees and Mayank Motukuri of Little Cedars Elementary were the student participants in the Global Issues Problem Solving Competition. Tyler Roth from Dutch Hill Elementary joined them for the Action Plan Presentation. Little Cedars Elementary 4/5/6 teacher Anne Purdy was the coach.
Bianchini, Fifita, Brees and Motukuri took top place in the Washington Future Problem Solving State Bowl held April 13-15 at Warm Beach qualifying them to advance to the International Conference. Students in the state competition prepared projects on the topic "Water Quality." For more information on that competition, click here.
Future Problem Solving Program International stimulates critical and creative thinking skills, encourages students to develop a vision for the future, and prepares students for leadership roles. The program engages students in creative problem solving within the curriculum and provides competitive opportunities. It involves thousands of students annually from Australia, Canada, Great Britain, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, and the United States.
