Thousands of Snohomish High School students, athletes and community members will long remember their association with Keith Gilbertson Sr. Thousands more will be linked to the legendary high school coach and educator because of an upcoming action by the Snohomish School Board.
Gilbertson died in February 2011, ending a 61-year career as a Snohomish High School coach and English teacher, including the past 31 years as a volunteer with the school’s football and girls’ basketball programs. His tireless dedication to student athletes and his legendary career endeared him to many. His influence is indelibly etched into the lives of thousands.
As a tribute to Keith Gilbertson Sr., the Snohomish Education Foundation (SEF) has launched a fundraising effort to endow a perpetual Keith Gilbertson Sr. Memorial Scholarship at Snohomish High School.
Each year, two graduating seniors from Snohomish High School will be awarded the Keith Gilbertson Sr. Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship, which provides each student with $1,000/year for college expenses, is renewable annually. Each recipient is eligible to receive up to $4,000 for four years of college attendance. The scholarships are awarded from the Eileen and Keith Gilbertson Memorial Endowment Fund. The fund has been created to honor the lifetime achievements of Gilbertson in his many different roles as a model Panther for 61 years. Invested for growth and income, this endowed fund assures the Gilbertson scholarships will be awarded starting in 2012 and available for eligible Snohomish High School student-athletes in future years.
