Students, staff explore new elementary schools
On Tuesday, Jan. 4, after more than two years of planning and construction, students, teachers and staff from Riverview Elementary and Machias Elementary moved to their new homes. While their new schools were being constructed, both schools set up temporary residence at the District’s Maple Avenue Campus. Both projects were part of the District's 2008 $261.6 million Capital Projects Bond.
Above are photos of the new schools. Below are some comments from our students regarding their thoughts on their new homes:
- “Thank you! Thank you for everything, but my favorite part is the track! I love walking around it with my best friends. It’s a perfect sort to talk. I also like the basketball court. Thanks a million!
- “I absolutely love the new toilets."
- “I wish the other schools were as lucky as we are."
- “How much I like the school in one to ten… it would be… 10”
- “This is the most awesome-est school I’ve ever been to."
- “I absolutely love the shared space. It feels peaceful.”
- “I absolutely love the wetlands trail. It is a perfect place to walk, talk and run. I would recommend it to any person."
- “The gym has a lot of good stuff inside of it, and it is really big so we can run around."
- “I like the shapes, colors and design of the classrooms.”
