Snohomish School District is one of 59 school districts in the state to receive grant funding for energy efficiency improvements. Snohomish will receive $401,068 towards upgrades that are projected to save the district $33,389 per year in operational costs.
Six elementaries will receive lighting upgrades, and four will recieve new heat pumps. In addition to reducing operating costs, there are other benefits to making these upgrades. New temperature controls will work better to provide a better learning environment. Older lamps and ballasts will be replaced by healthier models that provide better light levels.
Mike Sullivan, Executive Director of Business Services, comments, “Not every district received this grant. We qualified because we could leverage local dollars and demonstrate a short and simple payback with significant savings.”
