WASA recognizes two for contributions to district
On May 19, the Washington Association of School Administrators (WASA) – Sno-Isle Region 109 recognized two local individuals for their unique contributions to the Snohomish School District. Sue Sullivan, long-time Snohomish community volunteer, was nominated for the WASA Community Leadership Award. Matt King, TOSA and district assessment specialist, was a nominee for the WASA Student Achievement Leadership Award. We are thankful for both of their contributions to our district and community! Their nominations are below:
WASA Community Leadership Award Nominee - Sue Sullivan
-
Sue Sullivan has lived almost her entire life in Snohomish and has been an active volunteer for all of her adult life. She is involved in a broad array of civic groups and our district has had the fortune to bask in her glow on many occasions, particularly in her association with Lions Club. Last fall, Sue led a program she dubbed “School Supplies in a Backpack" to provide school supplies and backpacks for students who cannot afford them. Over 600 of our students enrolled from kindergarten to eighth grade received supply-stuffed backpacks and Sue hopes to connect even more students this coming fall. This is just one snapshot of Sue’s selfless character and captures perfectly her path of leadership and service.
WASA Student Achievement Leadership Award Nominee - Matt King
-
Matt King has been an English teacher in Snohomish School District since 1986. He was one of those phenomenal teachers that shared his passion for the written and spoken word with his students. Over the past two years, Matt has applied that passion to be the guiding force in creating our data dashboard. From the conception, this data dashboard was made for teachers through their own eyes. Matt facilitated his fellow staff members in creating a system that allowed teachers to have access to student performance data in real time. Teachers having access to real time student performance data has enabled them to make informed instructional decisions on a daily and weekly basis. Matt has been instrumental in creating a tool that puts data –all data– at the classroom teacher’s fingertips. The same passion that he brought to his teaching has now ignited our staff’s instructional decision making.
