Veterans Day assemblies
Many of our schools have planned Veterans Day assemblies for Wednesday, Nov. 10. (Note: There is no school on Thursday, Nov. 11.) All veterans, families and community members are welcome to attend any or all of these events. All events are scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 10, unless otherwise noted (AIM High School, Centennial Middle School, Totem Falls Elementary and Emerson Elementary).
High schools
- AIM High School – There will be two programs on Thursday, Nov. 4, one at 10 a.m. and the other 11:30 a.m., held in the Fireside Room at the Parkway Campus. Guest speakers include Shelly Starr, mother of fallen U.S. Marine Jeffrey Starr; Douglas Roulstone, former captain of a U.S. Navy aircraft carrier; and Michael Daniel from the U.S. Naval Station Everett.
- Glacier Peak High School – 9:20 a.m. in the school’s Main Gym. Guests are asked to sign in at the Main Office. The event will include a candlelight entrance, JROTC Color Guard performance, school choir and band performances, readings, videos, speakers and a moment of silence followed by Taps. Glacier Peak students hope to send more than 2,000 Christmas cards to U.S. troops overseas this year. The school will be accepting donations to help with postage the week of Nov. 15. If community members would like to make a donation to offset the cost of postage they can bring donations to the bookkeeper’s office during school hours.
- Snohomish High School – 8:24 a.m. in the school’s Main Gym. The event honoring our nation’s veterans will include area speakers and reflective moments, a JROTC Color Guard performance, choir and band performances, readings, videos, and a moment of silence.
Middle schools
- Centennial Middle School – Friday, Nov. 12, at 11:10 a.m. in the school’s Gym.
- Valley View Middle School – 1:25 p.m. in the school’s Gym. The event will include a presentation of colors, soldier letters read by staff and students, choir and band performances and a moment of silence.
Elementary schools
- Cascade View Elementary – 9:30 a.m. in the school’s Gym.
- Cathcart Elementary - 5th and 6th graders will put on a concert at 7 p.m. in the school’s Gym titled “CNN, Live Cathcart News Network, Veterans Day Edition.”
- Dutch Hill Elementary - 8:45 a.m. in the school’s Gym. A tea will follow the event in the school’s Library.
- Emerson Elementary - Students will be singing songs reflective of the holiday, as well as listening to retired U.S. Navy Captain Dean Dolquist speak about what Veterans Day means to him on Friday, Nov. 12, at 8:30 a.m. in the school’s Gym.
- Little Cedars Elementary – 2:15 p.m. in the school’s Multi-Purpose Room.
- Machias Elementary - 2:15 p.m. in the Maple Avenue Campus Commons. There will be food, music, singing, introductions and special presentations by classes to honor veterans.
- Riverview Elementary - Riverview’s 5th and 6th graders will honor veterans with a concert at 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. in the Maple Avenue Campus Commons. The program will include a slide show featuring photos from staff and students of their own important veterans.
- Seattle Hill Elementary - 8:45 a.m. in the school’s Multi-Purpose Room. There will be music, singing, and an introduction of veterans.
- Totem Falls Elementary - 5th graders, along with the 4/5 and 4/5/6 classes from Totem Falls, will present an assembly and concert on Tuesday, Nov. 9, at 8:45 a.m. and 7 p.m. in the school’s Gym. During the morning assembly, the Snohomish High School Color Guard will present the flags. In the evening, Boy Scout Troop 91 will present the flags. There will also be a slide show highlighting community veterans.
