Parking Lot Procedures
-
Safety is foremost. Our first and foremost concern at Seattle Hill Elementary is the safety of our students, staff and families.
Making sure more than 600 students get home safely is an endeavor we take very seriously. Realizing the task at hand, we have created the below parking lot procedures and ask that you review them and are diligent about following them. Please keep in mind that on the first and last day of school, during special events and on rainy days, there are always more cars than usual, so be prepared for the process to take a bit more time than it would typically take. Following the safety guidelines in the parking lot sets a good example for students and encourages them to do the same. If we all follow these procedures, families should be able to enter and exit our parking lot quickly, safely and in an orderly manner.
Thank you in advance for your help.
Dropping off your child
If you are dropping your child in the morning, we ask that you follow these procedures. Doing so will help ensure everyone’s safety and that the traffic flows smoothly.- Please enter the “student drop off” lane and pull as far forward as space allows before dropping your child.
- If there is no available space in the “drop off” lane, please continue in the “through traffic” lane and circle the parking lot. The adult parking lot attendant will hold incoming traffic and allow cars from the parking lot to enter the “drop off” lane at her signal.
- Please have your child exit the car on the right (curb side) and never on the left (traffic side). The adult parking lot attendants and student traffic butlers are usually available to assist your child if need be.
- Please remain in and exit the area from the “drop off” lane if possible. If it is necessary to merge into the “through traffic” lane, please signal and check for oncoming cars before doing so.
- Please be aware of pedestrians and watch for cars backing out of parking spaces as you exit the lot.
- Please note that students are only allowed to be dropped off in the “drop off” zone and should never exit the car in any other area unless accompanied by an adult.
Our adult parking lot attendants are very good about matching students to parents and/or cars and make every effort to have your child ready to be picked up quickly.
Picking up your child
If you are picking up your child at dismissal, we ask that you follow these procedures. Doing so will help ensure everyone’s safety and that the traffic flows smoothly.- Please enter the “student pick up” lane and pull as far forward as space allows.
- If there is no available space in the “pick up” zone, please continue in the “through traffic lane” and circle the parking lot. The adult parking lot attendant will hold incoming traffic and allow cars from the parking lot to enter the “pick up” lane at her signal.
- Cars should never be left unattended in the “pick up” zone.
- Please have your child enter the car on the right (curb side) of the car and never on the left (traffic side). Note - Our adult parking lot attendants are usually available to help your child enter the car if need be.
- Please remain in and exit the area from the “pick up” lane if possible. If it is necessary to merge into the “through traffic” lane, please signal and check for oncoming cars before doing so.
- Please be aware of pedestrians and watch for cars backing out of parking spaces as you exit the lot.
- Please note that students are only allowed to be picked up in the “pick up” zone and should never be called to enter the car in any other area.
