Child Find: Helping every child reach their full potential
What is Child Find?
Child Find is the process of identifying, locating, and evaluating children with disabilities to ensure they receive the services they need. As part of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), every school district is required to serve individuals from birth through age 21, including children who are homeless or wards of Washington state.Our goal is to support families in identifying developmental delays and disabilities early, so your child can receive the help they need to succeed.
Is my child eligible for Child Find?
- For children aged 0 through 3: We offer services through Snohomish County's Early Support for Infants and Toddlers Program (ESIT).
- For children aged 3 through 5: If you suspect your child may have a developmental delay or disability, please click here to complete the referral form below for Early Childhood Special Education. Referral Form.
What to expect: Child Find screening process
The screening process is designed to assess your child's development and identify areas where they may need support. Here’s what you can expect:- Scheduled screenings: Three children are scheduled per hour to ensure personalized attention and a smooth experience for each family.
- Developmental stations: Your child will visit three stations, each assessing different areas of development, including cognitive, motor, and communication skills.
- Immediate results: After completing the stations, one of our team members will meet with you to discuss the screening results and outline the next steps.
