Snohomish School District's academic mission is to ensure that all students receive the time and support needed to access and surpass essential grade level learning. To this end, it is important that our teachers and educational leaders are clear on what we expect students to learn so we can better provide each student with personalized and targeted academic support, intervention and enrichment.
The secondary English Language Arts (ELA) and math essential standards posted here aim to clarify our districtwide expectations for learning in ELA and math. These are standards that must be taught in every secondary ELA and math classroom in the district and on which students will receive intervention if necessary. The essential standards are not the only standards that will be taught to students. There are supporting standards that will also be taught along with the essential standards. However, the essential standards represent the foundational standards that we as a district are committed to teaching in every classroom to promote coherence and equity and to advance our academic mission. We will revisit our essential standards each year and make necessary adjustments.
