Early Entrance to Kindergarten
-
February 2024
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Welcome to the Snohomish School District, and thank you for inquiring about our early entrance to kindergarten program. Our goal in offering this program is to assure that your child is placed where they will be the most successful in the first year of school as well as throughout their school career.
Parents/guardians of children who turn 5 between September 1 and October 31 may apply for early entrance to kindergarten.
You will need to have your child evaluated by a certified psychologist* who will use specific tests to determine your child’s abilities in seven developmental categories. For your child to qualify, they must show above-average ability in each required testing area (standard score of 115 or above in all testing areas). If the exam administered does not use standard scores, the student must pass the screening at the five-year, six-month level.
If you would like your child to be considered for early entrance to kindergarten, please fill out the online Early Entrance to Kindergarten Inquiry Form.
When you fill out the inquiry form you will receive the Kindergarten Early Entrance Assessment Form, a list of approved psychologists, and information about an opportunity to pre-screen your student.
Early entrance to kindergarten is space dependent. If your child qualifies for early entrance and if there is space available at your school, they can be placed in the kindergarten program on a trial basis for 30 days. At the end of this evaluation period, it will be determined if early entrance to kindergarten is the best placement for your child.
Completed assessment forms must be received no later than August 15. The testing information will be reviewed, and the parent/guardian will be notified. Assessment forms received before June 1 will be notified by June 15. Assessment forms received after June 1 will be notified no earlier than August 15 and no later than August 31.
Again, thank you for your interest in our early entrance program. If you have questions, please call the Teaching & Learning Services office at 360-563-7257.
Sincerely,
Monica Bauer
