Early Entrance Kindergarten
Welcome to the Snohomish School District, and thank you for inquiring about our early entrance to kindergarten program. Our goal in offering this program is to assure that your child is placed where they will be the most successful in the first year of school.
Parents/guardians of children who turn five between September 1 and October 31 and feel their child will be successful in kindergarten may apply for early entrance to kindergarten.
You will need to have your child evaluated by a certified psychologist* who will use specific tests to determine your child’s abilities in seven developmental categories. Please download and take the kindergarten early entrance assessment form to your child’s appointment and give it to the psychologist for completion. Your child will need to demonstrate above-average ability in each of the required testing areas (standard score of 115 or above in all testing areas). If the exam administered does not use standard scores, the student must pass the screening at the five-year, six-month level.
Early entrance to kindergarten is space dependent. If your child qualifies for early entrance and if there is space available at your school, they can be placed in the kindergarten program on a trial basis for thirty days. At the end of this evaluation period, it will be determined if early entrance to kindergarten is the best placement for your child.
Completed assessment forms must be received no later than August 15, 2022. The testing information will be reviewed, and parents/guardians will be notified. Assessment forms received before June 1 will be notified by June 15. Assessment Forms received after June 1 will be notified no earlier than August 15 and no later than August 31.
Again, thank you for your interest in our early entrance program. If you have questions, please call the Teaching and Learning Services office at 360-563-7257.
