Skykomish Valley Indian Education (SVIE)

Founded in 1980, Skykomish Valley Indian Education (SVIE) is a federally funded program that serves students of Native American/Alaska Native descent in preschool through high school in the Monroe, Snohomish and Sultan public schools. The no-cost program provides academic support and cultural activities such as the annual Heritage Day and Pow Wow. Families have also formed a nonprofit group to guide and support the program. All meetings are in-person at the SVIE Culture Center, Wagner Center (entrance through field gate at Kirby Lane). Hybrid meeting participation through Zoom is also welcomed. - Note: Meetings held the third Thursday of the month except no meeting in December and the June meeting is held the second Thursday of the month.
2024-2025 school year events and dates

- Longhouse during the Evergreen State Fair - August 22, 27, and 28, We will be serving frybread and Indian Tacos. All proceeds benefit our nonprofit SVIE parent organization, a 501(c)(3). Look for Native culture displays and special events throughout the week.
- SVIE outreach table at Monroe School District Resource Fair - Thursday, August 29, 4-6 p.m.
- SVIE back to school dinner - Monday, September 16 at Monroe High School
- Return of the Salmon Celebration - Saturday, September 28 at Osprey Park in Sultan. This is a community-wide event. SVIE sponsors cultural/environmental arts activities and sells frybread as a fundraiser for SVIE
- SVIE outreach table at Sultan School District education jamboree - Monday, October 14
- SVIE Snohomish dinner and culture night - Wednesday, November 20
- 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, November 20
- Snohomish School District Resource and Service Center (1601 Avenue D in Snohomish)
- Guest speaker and storyteller Johnny Arnoux, Siksikaitsitapi Blackfoot Confederacy
- Arts and crafts and a potluck of indigenous foods, including buffalo stew and cornbread. Please join our gathering for the evening and bring one of your family's favorite Indigenous dishes.
