October 15 2020 - Message From Supt. Kultgen

At last evening’s school board meeting, the board decided to postpone the tentative October 26 in-person start date for our preschool through 2nd grade classrooms. This decision, which was not made in haste or lightly, was made after receiving earlier guidance from the Snohomish Health District requesting that districts pause their re-opening efforts.

September 24, 2020 - In-Person Learning Message From Supt. Kultgen

Two weeks ago, the Snohomish Health District, under the direction of Dr. Chris Spitters, announced that school districts can begin planning to slowly bring back elementary students to in-person instruction. He noted that as there is a consistent downward trend in infection rates, the district can begin to bring our younger students back in gradual waves for in-person instruction. At last night’s School Board meeting, the direction was given to have students return.

The Snohomish Health District has updated its guidance on consideration for planning remote vs. in-person instruction. The Snohomish Health District noted that after peaking in late July at 97 cases per 100,000 over a 14-day average, the incidence of newly reported COVID-19 cases has continued a sustained, five-week decline. For the most recent 14-day period (August 23 – September 5, 2020), the rate was 48 cases per 100,000.

July 29, 2020 - School Board Meeting Set for July 30

This afternoon, all school districts in Snohomish County received a recommendation from Snohomish Health District to begin the 2020-2021 school year using a remote learning model. The Snohomish Health District shared its concerns about widespread in-person instruction this fall given the current community transmission rate data and the evolving science around COVID-19.

Earlier today after discussion at a Snohomish School District School Board meeting, the Board decided to take action on this recommendation at a special meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 30. Additional communication from the school district will be emailed to all district families after that meeting.

You can learn more about the district’s re-opening efforts at www.sno.wednet.edu/reopening. Questions and concerns can be emailed to reopening@sno.wednet.edu.
