Are you interested in being part of a Student Advisory Council to the School Board?
Calling all Snohomish School District high school students! Are you interested in serving as a representative on the Student Advisory Council for the School Board? We have 10-member Student Advisory Council representative positions open for the 2022-2023 school year and invite you to submit your application by October 14, 2022. Four students (one per grade level) will be selected from each Glacier Peak High School and Snohomish High School, and two students will be selected from AIM High School. Students selected to the Student Advisory Council will receive community service hours for their involvement.Background
We want to work to ensure that student voice is heard at all levels, including the School Board, in our district. As a public school district, our organization exists to educate and serve all students in our community and therefore, students’ needs, interests, ideas and opinions are important in our schools.This 10-person Student Advisory Council will meet once per month to discuss School Board topics and important topics at each of the schools. At the first School Board meeting each month (second Wednesday at 6 p.m.), representatives from the Student Advisory Council will have the opportunity to speak with the School Board.

Application Process
- All interested students will complete an online application.
- A district administrative team will interview and select the representatives of the Student Advisory Council for the 2022-2023 school year from those students who have submitted applications.
- At the regular Board meeting on October 26, 2022, the School Board will approve the successful candidates.
- The first Student Advisory Council meeting will be in November 2022.
- The student advisory members’ term for the 2022-2023 school year will begin in November. The term will conclude June 2023.
- Note: Student Advisory Council representative for future years will be selected in the spring. Those representatives’ terms will begin in September and conclude in June.
Criteria for serving as a Student Advisory Council representative
- Student advisory representatives must be enrolled in the Snohomish School District and remain so throughout the length of their term.
- Student advisory representatives should be able to effectively communicate and represent the interests of all Snohomish School District students, which includes those who may differ from their own.
- Student advisory representatives must commit to attending one meeting per month throughout the school year (some exceptions may be made for extenuating circumstances).
- From the 10-member Student Advisory Council, three representatives will be chosen to additionally serve as student representatives to the School Board. Those three students will also need to attend one School Board meeting each month which is on the second Wednesday at 6 p.m.
Student Advisory Council expectations
- Be punctual.
- Under the guidance of Wil Johnson, district liaison to the group, they will learn and understand the governance process.
- Be prepared for meetings by reviewing meeting agenda items and information prior to meetings.
- Contribute to discussions by providing student insight and perspectives.
- Regularly report back to the student body regarding the work of the district and School Board.
- Help with the recruitment of a new Student Advisory Council representatives at the end of the school year.
