Counseling

  • Dear Families,

My name is Heather Wolfe and this will be my seventh year as the school counselor at Dutch Hill Elementary. I look forward to working with you and your child(ren) and it is my hope that this year will be full of positive experiences for all students. I am very fortunate this year to have a student intern that will be joining me on Mondays and Fridays. Her name is Alex Kerney and she is currently completing her master’s degree at Seattle Pacific University. She is already making connections with our students and will be a wonderful asset to our school community this year.

The school counseling program here at Dutch Hill Elementary is based on the American School Counselor Association model and our district’s standards. My involvement with the students takes place in several ways. One of my roles is to help implement and support school-wide social emotional learning. This year, your child’s teacher will be using the Second Step program to teach important skills for learning, empathy, emotional management, and problem solving. In addition to these weekly lessons, I will visit your child’s class once or twice a month to deliver additional lessons in interpersonal skills, bullying prevention, personal safety and career awareness.

Another function of the school counselor is to facilitate small groups. Groups usually consist of three ot seven students that meet with me weekly for approximately six weeks. Each group is focused on one topic and will be developed according to the needs and ages of the students. Groups will be starting later this fall once routines and schedules have been established.

All students have an opportunity to meet with me individually to help with adjustment or personal issues on an as-needed basis. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about the counseling program here at Dutch Hill.

    Be well and smile,

    Heather Wolfe
