History of the Citizens' Facility Advisory Committee (CFAC) & Past Members

Capital projects are those new construction and major renovation projects funded by voter-approved bonds. The community has demonstrated support of district projects by approving a $141.5M bond in 2004 and a $261.6M bond in 2008. Those projects included:

  • Construct Little Cedars Elementary (opened fall 2007)
  • Construct Glacier Peak High School (opened fall 2008)
  • Renovate and expand Snohomish High School (work completed 2012)
  • Replace Valley View Middle School (opened September 2012)
  • Renovate and expand Centennial Middle School (work completed 2012)
  • Replace Machias Elementary (opened January 2011)
  • Replace Riverview Elementary (opened January 2011)
  • Construct Snohomish Aquatic Center (opened January 2014)

2003 CFAC
The Board of Directors established a broad-based, independent Citizens’ Facilities Advisory Committee (CFAC) in March 2003. This committee was asked to evaluate the condition of all district facilities and make recommendations for improvements and additional school facilities based on enrollment projections. Based on the CFAC recommendations, a $141.5 capital facilities bond was placed before voters in May 2004. This capital facilities bond was approved by the voters.

2007 CFAC
In 2007 the Board of Directors appointed a new CFAC to review current facilities needs in the district and present a recommendation. This led to the 2008 capital facilities bond for $261.6 million. This capital facilities bond was approved by the voters.

2018-2019 CFAC
In 2018 the Board of Directors appointed a new CFAC to review current facilities needs in the district and present a recommendation. Based on the CFAC recommendations, a $470 million capital facilities bond was placed before voters in February 2020. Although this bond would have replaced the district’s remaining elementary schools (Cathcart Elementary, Cascade View Elementary, Central Emerson Elementary, Dutch Hill Elementary, Seattle Hill Elementary, and Totem Falls Elementary), it was not approved by the voters.
