Transition Center

The Transition Center is a program designed for special needs men/women (ages 18 – 21) to help them reach their goals. Functional academics, employability and independence are the main focuses of our program. Upon graduation from the program, students will leave with a solid foundation of being responsible, independent and successful adults. This program is held during the Snohomish School District’s typical school year. It is held from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Thursday.

Criteria for enrollment

  • Completed all high school requirements
  • Qualify only in adaptive and/or functional eds on their IEP
  • Work independently at a job site(s) with a job coach
  • Working towards independence in:
    • Transportation
    • Mobility
    • Employment
    • Personal care
    • Daily living skills

  • Money management (banking and budgeting)
  • Time management
  • Food handlers card
  • Instructional permit (test only)
  • Cooking
  • Shopping
  • Filing a tax return
  • Local/state/federal laws
  • Self-advocacy

Employment

  • Resume writing
  • Job research
  • Interviewing techniques
  • Communication skills
  • Job applications (on-line and hard copy)
  • Speed and accuracy on the job
  • Independence at a job site

Independence

  • Transportation (Community Transit, DART, driving, etc.)
  • Personal care
  • Mobility in the community/job site
  • Independence at a job
  • Daily life skills
  • Connection to agencies (if applicable)
  • Department of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR)
  • Department Disabilities Administrations (DDA)
