National Honor Society membership in the Glacier Peak High School chapter is both an honor and a privilege bestowed upon a prestigious group of students. Selection for membership is by a Faculty Council and is based on the four pillars of the National Honor Society. These pillars are outstanding scholarship, character, leadership and service. Once selected, the members have the responsibility to continue to demonstrate these qualities.
- Students who are eligible to apply for membership into Glacier Peak High School National Honor Society will receive an invitation email with an attached application form to turn in approximately two weeks after first semester grades are entered. Qualified students will meet a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.45. Application deadline will be clearly indicated in the email.
- All applicants will be immediately inducted provided they meet the GPA requirments of 3.45.
- Potential member’s records will be reviewed by their administrator and counselor. Any offenses in their records (grades 9-12) that do not comply with the four pillars of the National Honor Society may disqualify them for membership.
The the following definitions used to review a students information/activity forms:
- Scholarship: Only students who have attended Snohomish School District for the equivalent of one semester may be considered for membership. Students who have not met this attendance qualification may submit a letter of recommendation from the previous school’s principal.
- Leadership: Students must document leadership positions they have held on their application. These may be in or out of school leadership roles. An example of leadership is holding an office or position of responsibility in school or extra-curricular club or activity. Leadership can also be in the classroom, at work, and in school or community activities. The student who exercises leadership inspires positive behavior in others. Student leaders are those who are resourceful, good problem solvers, promoters of school activities, idea-contributors, dependable, and positive people.
- Service: The student must show evidence of voluntary contributions to the school or community. Service is considered to be those actions undertaken by the student which are done with, or on behalf of others, without any direct financial compensation and with a positive, courteous, and enthusiastic spirit. As a volunteer, the student is dependable and well-organized. The student is gladly available and willing to offer assistance.
- Character: The student must manifest truthfulness in acknowledging obedience to rules, avoiding cheating, and illustrate unwillingness to profit by the mistakes of others. The student of good character upholds principles of morality and ethics, is cooperative, demonstrates high standards of honesty and reliability, shows courtesy, concern, and respect for others, and generally maintains a good and clean lifestyle.
