Health Education

  • 5th and 6th Grade - Human Growth and Development will be taught each year during 5th and 6th grade.  Topics include puberty, reproductive system and HIV/AIDS. Links to the lesson documents are located below.

    Middle school and high school - This school year, the Snohomish School District is in the process of developing secondary sexual health lessons, which will be taught in 7th, 8th, and 9th grade, beginning in the 2019-2020 school year pending school board approval. As part of this process, families and community members are invited to provide feedback on the draft sexual health lessons, which cover the following topics:

    7th Grade (about six class periods)

    • Puberty
    • Anatomy and Reproduction
    • HIV/AIDS Prevention
    • Healthy Relationships
    • Decision-Making
    • Washington State Laws

    8th Grade (about eight class periods)

    • Puberty
    • Reproductive System
    • HIV/AIDS Prevention
    • Healthy Relationships
    • Decision-Making
    • Washington State Laws

    9th Grade (about eight class periods)

    • Anatomy and Reproduction
    • Pregnancy and Childbirth
    • Contraception
    • STD
    • Washington State Law and Consent

    Lessons are available for review from March 11 to April 5 (8 a.m.-3 p.m.) or by appointment. The draft lessons are also posted electronically from March 11 to April 5 by clicking here. Please contact Teaching and Learning Services at 360-563-7257 with any questions or concerns.
