Election Message from the Superintendent
February 12, 2020 - Unfortunately, the Snohomish School District Capital Bond did not meet the 60 percent threshold for approval. While I am disappointed by the results, we understand the current school funding climate may have made it difficult for some to support a school bond. Without capital bonds, we cannot fund major construction improvements that extend the life of our aging school buildings, address overcrowding, or reduce our reliance on portable classrooms.
Moving forward, we will work with our staff, parents, and community to determine next steps. Our needs will not go away, and our students deserve school buildings that are safe, efficient and designed for 21st century learning.
A lot of work went into this bond measure. Thank you to our Citizens’ Facility Advisory Committee (CFAC). This group spent a year reviewing the conditions of our school buildings, exploring demographic and enrollment projections, and prioritizing need when developing their recommendation for building improvements. Their focus was on our community and ensuring our students have access to safe, quality school buildings that continue to be a source of pride for our community.
I would also like to thank the Snohomish School Board and our staff for ensuring we developed a funding measure that would support our students. Finally, I would also like to thank Citizens for Snohomish Schools for volunteering their time these past months.
I am so proud of our students, staff and schools. We will continue to build for our students’ future, and I look forward to continuing to work with our community on how to best move forward.
Dr. Kent Kultgen
