Communication regarding Snohomish High School

October 21, 2021

District Families –

On Tuesday, October 19, we notified our Snohomish High School community that as a school and district we were working with law enforcement to investigate a report of an assault that occurred on Monday, October 18, at Snohomish High School. Since that communication, there has been continued misinformation regarding what occurred in this incident being shared through multiple sources. We have also been made aware of an online petition and potential planned student walkout.

Yesterday (October 20), the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office noted in its public response to the media: “At 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Snohomish Police Department received a 911 call and responded to take a report of an incident that occurred at Snohomish High School. During the investigation, it was discovered that two students, a boy and a girl, had sexual contact in the hallway. The sexual contact was in the form of a kiss. There was a second boy, a witness, also present when this occurred who was not involved in the sexual contact. Detectives are actively investigating this incident.”

Student safety remains our utmost priority and all reports are taken very seriously. Snohomish High School, the district and the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office are actively investigating this incident. Students are encouraged to report any incident that makes them feel unsafe to a teacher, staff member or trusted adult. If a student ever feels like they are in immediate danger, they should call 911 right away.

We appreciate your understanding.
