Inclement weather make-up days

Inclement weather make-up days

Students are required to be in school 180 days. Inclement weather days are built into the school calendar at the end of the school year. So far this school year (2018-2019), we have had to cancel six days (February 4, February 5, February 6, February 11, February 12 and February 13) due to inclement weather moving the last day of school to Wednesday, June 26. Please note when we are past this stretch of school closures, we will take stock of any additional number of days we need to make up and will schedule them so as to minimize the impact on students, staff and families. At this time, we do not anticipate changes in graduation plans or events.

As you may have heard, state law allows the Office of Public Instruction (OSPI) to waive missed school days, and school districts across the state will have the opportunity to apply to waive days that were missed while the state of emergency was in effect. However, OSPI has also noted there is no legal authority to waive the mandatory average of 1,027 hours of instruction for students.

We will be in further communication with our district families as we navigate this process.
