May 8, 2020 Message from Superintendent Kultgen

Dear Families -

As we are working through our new “normal," it is my sincere hope that this finds you safe and keeping healthy. Below are a couple of announcements to provide clarity as we move forward. Thank you for your continued support and if you have a question or concern please do not hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher, principal or drop me a line.

Have a great weekend,

  • Attendance - Beginning the week of Monday, May 11, teachers will be taking weekly attendance. This attendance will be visible to students and families in Skyward/Family Access. Students will be marked as either “Present” or “Not Engaged” in the system. At our middle and high schools, attendance will be taken by period. If the student has engaged at least once in a class in any way throughout the week, they will be marked Present. This engagement may include a student who has participated in learning activities, logged on to Canvas or another learning management system for a class, been in a Zoom meeting, and email and phone conversations. This attendance report will be used to identify students who are having trouble accessing their learning so that we are able to reach out and better able to offer support and assistance. Taking attendance also allows the district to comply with state attendance requirements.
  • Last day of school - The last student day of the 2019-2020 school year will be Friday, June 19. We will let our students, staff, families and community know of other important year-end dates and times as they are available.
  • Meals – Please remember that if participating in the district’s daily meal delivery, it’s important to be kind to others and practice social distancing while waiting and picking up meals.
