Graduation message clarification

Dear Families,

We would like to provide further details regarding plans for graduation for AIM High School, Glacier Peak High School and Snohomish High School. Our message yesterday did not intend to create anxiety or frustration. The intent was to let you know that although we will be unable to have a traditional ceremony at an arena or stadium, that we were diligently working on an alternative plan that would celebrate and recognize the Class of 2020.

As we mentioned in Friday’s message, we must align with the guidance provided by the state and Governor Inslee. That being said, we have been engaged in contingency planning with our school board and school administrators using the input we received from our survey to provide the best possible celebration for our seniors.

The goal of the graduation ceremony is threefold:

  • First is to have a virtual ceremony where all the individual celebrations and speeches for each high school can be enjoyed in one video.
  • Secondly, and it must align with the Governor’s guidance, is to have each student walk across a stage in his or her cap and gown to receive their diploma.
  • Lastly, we are brainstorming every possibility to have the senior’s immediate family watch their senior receive the diploma. Again, this must align with the guidance from the Governor.

Thank you for your understanding during these difficult times. We truly want to recognize and celebrate our seniors’ achievements, yet align with all safety protocols.

As soon as we hear from the Governor about his guidance on graduation ceremonies, we will communicate those details with you. We appreciate your understanding.
