June 5, 2020 - Communication from Superintendent Kultgen

Dear Families,

As we look to next year and how school will look for the students, staff and families in the fall, I want to share with you our district’s process for defining education in the Snohomish School District.

To define education in Snohomish, a Re-Opening Committee has been formed. This committee includes district administrators, principals, staff and parents. Additionally, there are student, teacher and classified employee sub-committees. Agendas, documents and minutes from the meetings will be posted on our website at www.sno.wednet.edu/reopening. We also have a dedicated email address (reopening@sno.wednet.edu) for those looking to provide input.

The district’s Re-Opening Committee met for the first time earlier today in preparation for when the state provides its guidance to all districts across Washington. We believe we will receive this guidance on Monday, June 8. Once received, the committee will meet regularly with the goal to have a recommendation to the School Board by early July. We know this is a very short timeframe, and although we cannot afford to make a rushed decision, we also do not have the luxury of time. It is for this reason that our actions must be intentional, and we must be focused on a solution. Once approved by the School Board, this will give us time to work on implementation and provide time for our families to plan.

I am confident in our expertise and determination to meet this challenge. I ask you to stay connected and look for more communications as we move through this process.

Sincerely,
Kent Kultgen
Superintendent
